When your social media presence is in English you reach a much broader audience.
For restaurants, many tourists from all over the world check out a company or restaurant's social media before they decide to go there. And if you are a brand and would like to reach more than just the German speaking (DACH) market, having an English social media presence is more appropriate.
In short: English content is much more accessible to international viewers.
Keep in mind that Facebook and Instagram both offer a translation in whatever language the user has their account.

Kurz gesagt: Englisch sprachiger Inhalt ist für internationale Nutzer viel besser zugänglich.
